Note from Alejandro's Libros:
Many people ask us about how the
writer Alejandro Roque Glez studied in the former Soviet Union (USSR), the
Eastern European Empire.
During Fidel Castro's communist
dictatorship, all new generations of Cubans inherited the totalitarian system
bestowed upon us by previous generations. Cubans born under a system without
private property, lacking everything, including specialized schools in aviation
and other industries, traveled to the USSR to study and fulfill their dreams of
advancing in life and achieving their aspirations through the only accessible
route at the time: moving to the exclusive country where Cuba had student
exchange relations, where it was the only place allowed.
The options were very limited for
young people who were beginning their own lives without knowing the world
around them, as the island was literally like a gigantic prison in the
Caribbean, with no direct access to the outside world.
You can also read about this in the author's book, "Born Motherland or Death."
